Housing Choice Vouchers

The Housing Choice Voucher program offers qualified applicants rental assistance in the private market.  Voucher holders will pay an amount based on the income they receive, and the remainder will be paid to the landlord by us, the Housing Authority.  Once you hold a voucher, you may look in the Staunton City or Augusta County area to find a suitable apartment or house within your payment standard. 

The rent and utilities for a chosen property must both fit within the payment standard when added together.  As of 2024, the payment standards for the HCV program are as follows:

1 bedroom: $1,086
2 bedroom: $1,264
3 bedroom: $1,778
4 bedroom: $2,114
5 bedroom or more: $2,431
